Handle with Care
We will again be providing the Handle with Care Program. If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, Mrs. Jackson would like to provide additional support at school. We understand that you are not always able to share details and that's okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning, or weekend, please email Mrs. Jackson with the email subject "Handle with Care" and your child's name. Nothing else will be said or asked. She will then let your child's teacher know that your child may need extra time, patience, or help during the day. If this is something your child could benefit from, please email Ursula Jackson at jacksonu@granbyschools.org or call her at 860-844-3048 ext. 6330.
Loss Group
The Wells Road Loss Group will again run for any students who have experienced significant loss. Experiencing grief firsthand can be a confusing process for children. As a parent or guardian, you cannot protect a child from the pain of loss. However, you can help them feel safe by allowing and encouraging them to express their feelings and you can help them build healthy coping skills that will help them long into the future. The loss group will be held weekly and will be completely voluntary. We are hoping to have this group up and running by October 1st. Enrollment is on a rolling basis throughout the year, as family's needs change. If this is something your child could benefit from, please email or call Dr. MacDonald for more information.
Banana Splits Group
Banana Splits is a school-based children's group program for students who have experienced parental separation or divorce. The purposes are: to provide a safe place to express and normalize feelings through sharing, to train children in problem solving and coping skills, to increase self esteem through mutual help, to support parents and school staff in working with Banana Splits kids, and to increase communication among children, parents, and school. Banana Splits groups will meet weekly during student lunch waves. Dr. MacDonald will be visiting classrooms in September to share this offering with children and permission slips will be forthcoming. Please contact Dr. MacDonald should you have any questions about this group.
